Hello everyone,
I have a Brahma hen who has been sick since December it started with her having crackles I started treating her with doxy-tylan powder in her water. I did the recommended dose she was fine for maybe a week or so then it came back did another round. Didn’t go away I had some amoxicillin-tylan powder didn’t work. I stopped giving her antibiotics to give her body a rest I just finished giving her a round of tiamulin also hasn’t worked. I have decided to try enrofloxacin I bought the tablets since I read that the powder is bitter and they won’t drink the water. My question is has anyone tried the tablets if so how many did you administer? Unfortunately she has lost a lot of weight she doesn’t eat much I haven’t weighed her yet but my guess is she weighs maybe 3lbs at most. I just want to double check if she weight 3lbs I would give 3 tablets a day for 5-7 days correct, and yes I have read about enrofloxacin and it being banned.

Hi. I'm sorry to hear what you've been through with your hen.
:hugs

What I read on the bottle, 3 pills sounds right since she's 3 lbs.

You have already given three other antibiotics to this chicken, to no avail. If she's off the last antibiotic, I would give her a couple of weeks of daily probiotics, either the powders for their water or crumbles for their feed.

I see @casportpony uses this product and maybe is familiar with tablets as most posts I'm finding thus far here are liquid. @Eggcessive and @Wyorp Rock might be able to help too.

Is there any way to get this hen to a vet? They may be able to do a float test and a throat culture to try to narrow down what this is.

Please wait until one of these Educators or someone else more familiar with Baytril can advise you before administering a fourth antibiotic to this chicken. Hopefully, someone can get to the bottom of this for you. :hugs

Hi, yes I started adding some electrolytes and probiotics to her water. Unfortunately where I live there are no vets near me that deal with poultry or any farm animal. I’ll definitely wait to see what others have to say about Baytril since I have never used it
