(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I was raised on a farm with chickens but haven't had them since childhood.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
none, I'll be adding them soon.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
woodworking, home projects.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I was a professor for 27 years but forced to retire early at 55 after suffering a stroke when my college didn't want to make accommodations to keep me.. My wife still works full time so I am home alone most days with two dogs and a cat.
I have learned that my suburban neighborhood is zoned for chickens so I will be converting a shed to a coop. It is about 10' by 12' with a roofed "lean-to" that I plan to surround with chicken wire for a run.

G’Day from down under Hipshot :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes for a bright and cheerful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
