Entertainment for chicks?

Hi All,

My silkies are getting much more active. They are barely spending time under the heat plate now. We upgraded to a playpen for our brooder, so it has more space.

Any ideas on what I can add for enrichment? They are flapping around, chest bumping and generally finding the pecking order.

I am making a swing for the coop at work. I was also thinking of making a perch using sticks for inside the brooder. I don't want to add a dust bath because they like to fling bedding and food, so it will likely make a mess.

Any ideas? Has anyone used bird toys like the ones below?

I haven't used those, things my chicks liked in the brooder were, piles of pine needles and grass, climbs of sod, any stick or stump I could find, and rotting logs, the endless bug supplier. I hope I gave some good ideas, good luck with your chicks!
