Entire free range area is crushed shell - ok?

Hello - the space we are considering for our coop and free range area is all crushed shell and a little garden (no grass, concrete or gravel) - is that ok? I know crushed shell can be good for chickens but is there such a thing as too much shell? !

The amount they ingest will be minimal.

Might be hard on their feet and not conducive to 'cleaning' or 'composting' of poops.
Some pics might help.
'Little garden' might get destroyed if that's the only 'dirt' they have to scratch in.
