UC Davis is closest for her I believeI'm not familiar with locations in California, but your state lab has 4 locations - Davis, Turlock, Tulare and San Bernidino. If one of those locations are near you, consider calling and asking how to submit some poop samples for testing http://cahfs.ucdavis.edu/
There is an outbreak of Newcastles in California right now. Some of the symptoms you describe could "fit", but they can also "fit" so many other conditions or diseases, it would be hard to know without testing.
I am sorry, I did not see your response earlier. It has been probably five days since her last green poop. Her appetite is back and she will basically eat infinite mealworms and cooked egg if I let her. But her poops are still very watery. This is what she did yesterday morning. You can see it is full of grass and undigested mealworm bits. There was a lot of water in the poop but it dried. I put her outside every day with the other birds and then indoors in a crate at night. Should I submit a poop sample for testing for New Castle? None of the other birds are sick. The poop looks like New Castle Disease. Flush her system with water to get rid of the toxins. Separate her for 72 hours (3 Days) after her last green poop.
Contact you lab for information about testing.I am sorry, I did not see your response earlier. It has been probably five days since her last green poop. ok, I will do that (should I just ask for fecal test for New Castle?).Contact you lab for information about testing.
Is she still unable to walk?
I would try to eliminate the grass and anything else that is fibrous for a few days. Offer her chick starter, egg, tuna and a little yogurt (1tsp a day) to see if that helps with the poop.
Ask your lab how they accept samples for testing. Some may want a stool sample while others want some type of swab, each is different.ok, I will do that (should I just ask for fecal test for New Castle?).
She can walk and run without problems now, but something is still wrong because she can not fly. She lifts up and stretches her wings but can't flap them. If she tries to jump off a ledge, she holds her wings out like a parachute and falls.
I will give her chick starter/egg and tuna and yogurt. It is hard to stop her from eating grass unless I put her in a cage all day and I think it is better for her to get some exercise.
Does your pullet have poultry grit available free choice?
I agree, if she is able to move/walk, then caging her would likely depress her, chickens do much better if they can move around and be with others.
