epicac use

I recently read an article in a magazine which mentioned the use of epicac to ward off predators. It stated that they "painted" it down the backs of their chickens. No further instruction was given. Has anyone heard of this?

Maybe has applications for training your own dogs, but I don't know if ipecac affects dogs and don't they eat their own emesis?
