Equine Fresh- how deep for chicks?

I don't know what "Equine" bedding consists of, but wood chips of pine or aspen (but no cedar or other aromatics) are recommended to be spread about one inch thick.

I just put it down deep enough that it's not rolling around when they walk on it--3/4-1" or so. It breaks down to sawdust once it's wet so I usually have to add a little here and there in between cleanings.

I put about 1/2" of pellets (equine fresh) for my itty bitty babies. Now at 4 weeks old, there is about an inch. It works wonderfully at keeping the smell to a minimum.

I put down about an inch and out of curiosity to see how well it was holding up I changed it after 4 days. What I decided is, just need to get a cat litter scoop and clean out the poop areas and other than that its great so far.
No smell at all but then again mine are only 1 week old.

I have no odor either, with 3 in my spare room. I clean the "coop" (cardboard box w/plastic inside on the bottom) 2xs a day, using paper towels flat. Works great for a fast cleanup! 2 are about 2 1/2 weeks, the other about 1 week or so...
