I'm new to raising chickens, and am in the process of building a chicken coop/run. I am extremely excited to have chickens, I am a major tomboy! I wanted to know if there were any accessories and/or equipment that I could keep in/around my hen house. Anything that I may need for cleaning, maintenance, sanitation, etc. I just want to have everything close to the coop. thanks

Things that you will need for cleaning and maintenance will include: source of water, shovel, rake, chair. Water because the chickens will need a good supply all the time. Shovel or rake depending upon your setup to turn the deep litter, stir up the run, put litter into a wheelbarrow to move to the compost heap. Chair for sitting to watch chicken television.

Do chickens like toys?

For parrots you can buy perches that wear down their claws. Are they appropriate for chickens, too?

I do know that I like having a stiff brush to scrape poo, dish soap for cleaning, bleach for disinfecting, rubber gloves and an apron for myself, apple cider vinegar to add to the waterer, golf balls to put in the nest, and a tarp to put over my coop/run on extra windy/rainy days.
