My Coop
Hello :frow
We have cameras out in our woods, so we know if we have predators.
And today we got an ermine on one of the cameras! 😬 We had an ermine last year and it was horrible, taking/killing like four chickens every night!
I *think* the only animals it could get that we have are rabbits, ducks, and chickens. We do have two baby goats but I don't think it would get them.
What do I do to keep my animals safe?
Thanks!

Those devlz are troublemakers for sure. I remember seeing this video a while ago, so I searched for it, again. Trapping is only way to eliminate it. There are other traps also, but this one you can make at home. (if you have some needed tools)

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, :highfive:

I agree the best way is to catch it and eliminate it. That is quite clever using a rat trap in a box. Good luck...

Yes, i agree that a weasel is devastating if it gets in your coop.
I have trapped a couple my self after loosing birds. (My coop was not good back then)
however, i offer another perspective. You will find lots of threads here about folks dealing with rat infestations that are troublesome, disgusting, and hard to correct, and i think " if these people only had a resident weasel, they would not have this problem"
A weasel is really a farmers friend. He is able to go right down the tunnels and holes where rats and rodents live and eliminate them. Weasels are very efficient at that.
I suggest you spend time securing your chickens in a coop with no holes or gaps larger than 1/4 inch. Hardware cloth over all holes and LOCK THEM IN at NIGHT. This is when a weasel will come calling.
A insecure coop opens your chickens up to danger from all kinds of other preditors anyway.
Secure your coop and live in harmony with your weasel if possible.
