Hi all,

I just got two 8 week old chicks, and brought them home. Within 15 minutes as I went to give them food, they flew out and escaped. I cannot find them.

Is this hopeless? Will they stick around the area since I have other chickens? Is there anything I can do?

Obviously I am devastated.

I would remain outside where they flew off, and keep food scattered and water for them. Not knowing what the area is like, I hope they will stay nearby and look for a roosting spot they can reach. Some chickens come running when you bring a food container out and shake it. I would put any other larger chickens up where they cannot get to the young pullets, since they can hurt them. Let us know if they show up.

One is a silkie, and the other is a silkie mix. The silkie won’t be able to fly, so I have no clue how it disappeared so quickly.

The good/bad news is that my property is extremely wooded, so less chance of hawk attacks, but harder to find two grey chicks in.

I don’t free range, so the other birds are separated. I’m hoping they stay around the others though.

Ugh, this is a nightmare.

How big is your property? Is it fenced in?
