Escaped chicks! Help!

Hi all,

I just got two 8 week old chicks, and brought them home. Within 15 minutes as I went to give them food, they flew out and escaped. I cannot find them.

Is this hopeless? Will they stick around the area since I have other chickens? Is there anything I can do?

Obviously I am devastated.

I would remain outside where they flew off, and keep food scattered and water for them. Not knowing what the area is like, I hope they will stay nearby and look for a roosting spot they can reach. Some chickens come running when you bring a food container out and shake it. I would put any other larger chickens up where they cannot get to the young pullets, since they can hurt them. Let us know if they show up.

Keep searching, do you have a dog? Check bushes and scatter meal worms.

They should remain close enough to the other chickens. Hopefully, they will be thirsty and hungry, and look for it.

Also, call your neighbors and ask. If its very wooded, then chances are they did not get far very fast especially at that age.

No dog. I’m in the area I last saw one of them. Going to look here. They went off in opposite directions, which is great.
