So, our Lamancha doe (7 months) has recently been causing some problems. She's always been very spirited, but until the past two weeks she has never gotten out of something that would be reasonably expected to keep goats in.
Today, I she cleared the 4' back gate and my daughter saw her jump over the 4" horse fence. She is not climbing it- she's jumping it. She has never jumped when we aren't home, and only once when we were home but not outside.
She has a friend, a wethers just slightly younger than her and she is jumping out of an area that's at least an acre with tons of grass and browse, so while the grass may look greener she's not at all lacking in company (also 4 human kids are out there a lot) or in eating opportunities.
I'm thinking the only option here is topping the gate and fence with electric?
So far she's only jumped over the front and back fences.
The front fence is a 36"+ wood picket fence with wire topping it (for more height..) Our front yard is on the other side.
Back fence is 48" woven horse fence with a 10' farm gate with mesh to keep the dogs/goats from slipping through. Horse barn, feed room and pasture it beyond this fence.
One side is 6' chain link. If she jumps over that we are done for.
Other side is 4" woven 4' fence with a single electric wire (not live now) at top. This is the neighbor's fence that has goats (no billys) or horses rotated. She's never gone over it.
At this moment she's tethered in the yard. Sigh. When she just went over the front we'd just lock her in their pen when we were gone since we are home a lot. Now she's jumped out of the pen (It's a smaller area along the back fence all 48" woven horse fence.)
