Seems like there's an uneasy truce going on so make the best of it.
Obelisk seems to peck Penny more if she's in the "wrong" place. Like on the windowsill or the back of the chair because that's HER spot. But they sleep at night with no problems.

Thank you so much for chronicling this. Although we are still in incubation stage, we're expecting to pick up some new babies in the spring to introduce some new blood to our mutt flock, and this is giving me some great starting point knowledge about the good, bad and ugly of introducing differently aged birds.

(The pics are also great, I have a fairly minimal concept of how fast chickens grow, so your photos have been REALLY educational!

hey,


I've been away for awhile, how are the ladies all doing? Have they been fully intergrated? I just finished the tractor so we are going to try them all together this weekend.

No they arn't

I'm planning to wait till winnie acts like a chicken rather then a chick, she has started to cluck, now she just needs to gain a little more weight.
They are sleeping together at night but seprated in the day.
Last night Winnie somehow got through the devider early and slipped past Hazel, running into the coop before they were all settled in; She may be starting to show a little bit of assertive behavior, or maybe she just wanted to go to bed....

I envy you
If only I had the ability to let them free range.
I still believe that eventually I’ll get them together.
I think Winnie may be starting to get some courage.
Hopefully, when she does get over her fear of the big girls, she will protect Esther.
Esther is a push over but Winnie may end up owning the place someday.

Yes, I can see where free ranging has huge advantage over penned birds. We tried penning them in a 50'x50' area but they all flew over it

I do worry about this winter though. Right now they have lots of thick bushes to hide under but come winter when the leaves are gone it will be another story and the red tailed hawks may have a field day.
