My girls are all roosting together at night. During the day the older ones will peck the little girls while they all free range. At night I find them all snugging up tight, then in the morning when they wake up, i find the older ones pecking the little girls while perching. Chickens are strange! I still don't have them all in the same tractor during the day. I'm going to wait a few more weeks for that. I'm letting them set the terms for now. It seems to be working.

Your Girls are 3 weeks younger then mine? Is that right?
I just double checked, yup 3 weeks younger on both counts, younger and older.


Ive been thinking about a couple newish ideas.

I might try to make a ladder that goes from the tractor into the lower egg door, that way the younger chicks could go in to the coop at night, the only problem would be, how to get them back into the tractor the next day.

The other idea is one i've been kicking around a while: to build a small fence that goes around the coop and tractor and create a nuetral zone.
Figureing out how to do it is the problem there.

I think I have it!
I think I can make a small nutral area around the coop and tractor if I put the tractor back in it's old position and then use some chicken wire and 2x4s to make a short fence between the tractor and my fence, then put another wall from the back of my coop to the other part of the fence and then add some netting over the top.
I'll need to check on materials for this idea but I think it could work.

With all that done I could open the door on the coop and the door on the tractor and they would have kind of a little labyrinth to intermingle and/or get away from each other.

Give it a try, I think if you find it doesn't work you should let it be for a few weeks. Give the little girls some time to catch up.

New Development:10 1/2weeks
I have been bringing the chicks in from the tractor, to the garage when it gets dark.
When it gets dark they start making noise to let me know they want to come in.
Tonight the noise Esther was making changed;
I belive she has started to "Cluck", although it sounded more like a half cluck half honk.
I'll add a recent pic later tonight.
