Thanks to everyone on my question of the white OE....Maggiesdad/ Ronotti......This is only my second set of OE's....My first are eggs from Skyline....I only have 2 hens , but 4 roosters 2 light colored and 2 darker colors( almost 18 weeks old) all have yellow legs and feet....Light colored Rooster #1 is the friendlies!! ....Rooster #2's colors are alot better but he can be mean!!! The darker Rooster's look like twins, but one is afraid of me and the other has pecked me....I only want to keep two(one of each) Which one's would you choose to keep??? Hope to post pic's of my new 3 week old from Greenfire farms tomorrow!
This is 1 of the darker Roosters it started to rain!!! The other one looks like he's twin!!!
This one's not as pretty as the other one ,but is tame and he knows I'm boss!!!
This one's colors are alot better, but he is mean
TR,Is the pure white normal in the Basque's, I got some just last week from Greenfire Farms and it looks like there is one which is going to be all white. Has anyone else come across with white Basque?
Except, this race of poulry was bred to type and standardized by the Spanish Government,. Marraduna is a color, not a simple color cropping up from a landrace. The folk who "Made" this breed from the Basque landraces knew what they were doing and did standardize the colors. Now if one were working on Llodana(sp?) Basque, maybe white would crop up. Marraduna is a gold chicken, not a white chicken.TR,
I also received chicks from Greenfire and I too had an "all white" chick that indeed remained "all white." With no offense to those interested in showing, this is in fact a land race, meaning that a variety of colors and patterns existed on the Basque farms because they were bread for laying and eating, not for SOP in a show. For that reason, I think having a few "not normal" chickens in your flock is closer to the true heritage of these birds than breeding for SOP. That said, I really appreciate all the effort and care of those who are working to "perfect" their flocks. But if you are like me and you want to maintain a Basque flock for their outstanding dual purpose traits, I can assure you that the eggs and meat of a white hen will taste just as good![]()

Thank you for the explanation!
Nothing wrong with the white chicken. It is not Marraduna however, so you should not breed it and sell the hatching eggs or chicks as Marraduna.
I might find out what the meat taste like soon unless someone wants them. I have 3 cockerels that I need to re home.
Send a pm if interested.
Ron
