Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

skyline - If you are talking about the lemon crele boy, yes I am. The two bigger boys I have are getting the job done. I am curious to see how he turns out, but need to cull down to as few birds as I can before winter. My feedbill is already insane.

Hehe!! I do have small hands, but they are laying fair sized eggs as well. ; )

I know what you mean about a feed bill. I can't believe the price of feed now. It's absolutely insane! Youe Crele boy is gorgeous. You shouldn't have trouble at all finding him a new home.

Thank you. : ) He is a sweet boy, not a mean bone in his body.

He really is gorgeous Aspen. Good luck finding him a new home.

Organic feed costs $34 for 50 lbs around here.

I need chickens who can free range and help out with the feed bill!

My mass hatching program had gotten delayed to to other works but I did manage to hatch off a good bit. Maggiesdad and others are proof that the genes are in here. Its just a matter of hatching off enough to cull. Of course yellow leggs are a must but if it doesnt have yellow leggs dont toss it because it may be holding something else. Since our gene pool is so so small I'd hatch off as many as possible and just have fun. Its all about the enjoyment of the hobby. I'm living proof that it can become a job instead of a hobby thats fun. Thats why I downsized dramatically so I could enjoy them again, (chickens in general). The Marradunas are some of my favorites with their unique personality and traits. I'm pretty sure by the time the smoke clears there's gonna be a bunch of different lines of Marradunas with different characteristics. Mine is that funny personality that makes you wonder if theyre more intelligent than you think. And let me stress the hardiness of the breed. Vitality is through the roof with these guys. I've never ever since day one have had a sick Marraduna Basque.
Oh I know what you mean, I get my surprise to do list once a week

Just remember everyone, have fun and lets enjoy this really ultimately rare bird. Hopefully someone is working on getting all the Basque over here, WINK WINK to the south.
I can't wait for next year when mine will be old enough to *really* see what I have! It will be interesting to see what lines come about over time with everyone starting pretty much with the same gene pool. I am aiming for friendliness and production in addition to the standard color. I really like the milles though and it's looking like I have a pair of recessive whites so I dunno... will have to see how it turns out. I am currently downsizing the number of breeds I'm keeping so I may have a little more room to play than I had originally thought. I took this of the friendliest one of the bunch. She literally cracks me up. She's soooo curious and begs for attention, literally. She also talks to me constantly. I just hope she is a good layer! Meet Piper.

Hey I'm from the South. Does that count??

Aspen......Great to talk to you. Probably the only thing I like more than Chickens are CHICKEN PEOPLE. I am jealous about your Colorado vacation. I used to drink coffee every morning with an ole man that talked about his grandson in Colorado alot...you have probably heard of him...John Denver. His grandpa Abe was a buddy of mine. Have a Great time and I'll talk to you when you get home.......................Mike

Congratulations Ron!! That is very cool!

Johnny broke his leg and we are waiting on surgery so I haven't had the chance to get pictures of my babies yet. They turned 6 weeks on Saturday.

Seiji was having a hard time adjusting to his new home and flock. Sandy is taking him up to her rooster rescue today (still on the ranch but the coop is 80 x 35 so I think he'll be happier there. Poor guy couldn't adjust and was too timid to stand up for himself. :-(
