For those of you considering the DP aspect of these birds...

Nice, Maggiesdad! How old was that boy?

9 months, they should have gone 4 -6 wks ago, but I was up to my elbows in bacon and ham. We processed 3 - 320lb hogs over the holidays (DW loved that one!) and I just didn't have time. I also wanted to see how long the boys would get along together. And this was just about it, they've been squabbling a lot over the past week, and the low guys on the totem pole kept hopping the fence to get out. Every time I put them back it got a little bit worse. You can kind of track them in this thread , you can see the dark rooster behind one of the Jersey giant crosses in one of the photos. The mixed breeds did mature faster than the EOs. The girls layed 4 - 6 weeks sooner, and the mixed roosters were about a month ahead, too.

Some other numbers -

8 roosters = 37lbs parts, bagged up as leg/thighs, breasts, wings/backs/necks (for soup stock) and feet (for pho)

I kept that guy whole for a friend that likes to do a lo temp roast over moisture.

I see chicken sausage in my future...

Thanks Tara!! It was a picture that was sent to me on one of those threads with amazing photos. I just loved it so much. I don't have horses but would love to have one, the chickens keep me busy enough!! LOL As with my chickens with feather feet I love horses with furry feet
