The only thing being in the colder climate for winter months is frostbite on the roosters comb tips. My one boy got it this winter, but the other one didn't

Ok on the frost bitten combs, one of our Maran roos got it this winter, lost all his points,
they just fell off, other than that it healed up fine. I saw the large coobs in the
pictures of Marraduna roos, but knowing this breed came into this country from
Canada they must be ok with cold weather. Thanks for answering my questions.

Hi,
I am in western PA, USA . Have a 4x6 coop .During the winter I keep my birds under lights 24/7. Keeps their combs from freezing. In the 4'wx6'd x4'ft. high coop, I use 2 of the soft white blubs set in silver reflectors. Never use bulbs with a teflon coating, they out gas a vapor which can kill the birds.
For the 2 1/2'w x3'd x3 ft. high bathelor quarters, I use one of the 60 watt bulbs in a silver reflector. Despite blizzards and sub zero windchills, the combs don't freeze. I don't slather anything on the combs.
Best,
Karen

Hey zekii...how are you. I raise Miget Whites also........along with Regal Reds, Harvest Golds, a few Blues and lots of Chickens..............Mike

I always love seeing all the different color pullets.
I think all of my EO girls are laying now, except the 22 week old. We got 10 eggs out of 18 girls, not all EOs. I've got to find some people to sell eating eggs to.
i better get on Craigslist.

I have had some chickens for almost a year now and have been bitten by the bug! I really liked all the information that I found on EOs. So I got some EO hatching eggs that have been in the incubator for 8 days now. Looking forward my EO addition. :)
