Apronstrings thanks for the eggs they look great and I will let you know how it turns out. Hoping for the best. I had 7 SFH eggs in lockdown and not one hatched hoping better with the EOs.

Any thoughts on sexing EO chicks? I have 5 that I hatched and re 4 weeks old now. Thanks!

Watch for the pinking up in the combs and the start of wattles for the males... the girls won't do that for another 6-7 weeks.


You might not notice it for another week or so, but definitely in two weeks.

You can kind of tell by the color of the chicks. The brown ones should be pullets and the whiter ones should be cockerels:



The Black and white ones are Pinta Pitas.

My pullets look like the ones in the picture, so that color. I have not been following the discussion on the SOP being considered for the US but my understanding of the Spanish SOP is that the CockBirds are supposed to look pretty much like the one with the group of hens. My guess is that boy is above 95 on the Spanish SOP.

Chema is no where near him.

Two of my three best ones have black and one has light barring in the neck. I am breeding the three of them to Chema and will also get hatching eggs from the flock that Megan has. I will pick the best Roo from hers and breed him to the best 4 or 5 of the pullets from mine. They will be un related flocks.

I am going to be hatching out a hundred or so chicks so I will need to get together with the group and will ask for help picking the best ones.

That is my plan and pray that it all works out!
