Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

Hi Everyone!!

It's been quite a while since I've had time to post. How is everyone? I see some beautiful pictures of your chickens and roosters! And the baby chicks are to die for!!

I have 19 EO eggs in my incubator. They went into lockdown today and we expect them to start hatching on Monday. I can't wait to see what comes out! As of 5 days ago, every single egg was fertile and growing. I hope User Error doesn't get in the way of them hatching. I will post pics soon!

I have a flock that are very close to the Spanish standard and want to start sharing them with all of you. After next week we will be selling hatching eggs. If anyone is interested please PM me.

I hope everyone is having a fabulous Saturday afternoon and I look forward to getting to know everyone (again)!

I like the pics from the Spanish site but I still have a lot to learn as well. Are you who have birds able to post pictures with age so that I can look at their type? One of the Spanish pics shows a nearly horizontal tail angle and another shows about a 60 degree angle. I would also like to know what is preferable in their coloration. I have one cockerel who is quite dark and another who is more gold. (I prefer the darker.) From the little I am reading they can be a variety of colors, being a land race, but I admit I do not find them very large. I have other breeds here which are considered heritage and they get very large in comparison.

I am the one that post those pics from the spanish page.
About the tail you are right I can translate everything that was said about those birds if you want, to give you an idea that will give you and idea on how far or close you are to see mistakes.
Just today I received an email from somebody over there who is willing to give me a hand on a bit more detail description on the birds and is offering to be my mentor. He gave me some good places to visit and read and a forum address exclusive to Euskal Oiloa people.
For now I ma leaving this two pics he send me to give an idea of the real thing, this two were champions on the 2011 , is a fair that is only for Euskal oiloa breed.

Ok I went ahead and asked about the barring on the tail: This should be barred white with black black been wider than white since black will turn almost gary. The rooster colour is to be the one from the Gorria kind witch is a orange red (kind of copper) with the barring between. There is not red orange/red feathers allow on the tail at all.The roosters will be lighter than the hens, the hens are not allow white feathers at all.Even do the hens are darker than the roosters the rooster should show the barring better than the hens.
Legs and beaks have to be yellow without any tone. The hens legs will turn lighter with age.

If you have some specific questions I can asked them over there and see what I get.

Good luck ddpbk1!! I put 19 in and they started hatching yesterday. So far there are 10 out!
