Here it is Stacey. Sorry for the delay. I went and bought two barrels off craigslist for 10 Bucks and got the deluxe Vogelzang barrel stove kit for 100 bucks. $110 for a homemade stove that will put out some serious BTU's... I kinda wish Id sand blasted them first and put some Black high temp paint on them but I'm in a hurry. Cold is around the corner and I'm not freezing my buns off this winter. When we moved out here last November I thought I could heat the place with a propane heater. Boy was wrong.. Now I'm waiting on my chimney piping and thimble.

I like it. I will have to keep this in mind when I get my shop/barn built in the future. I was going to build one out of propane tanks since they are thicker but have not decided for sure on the design I will go with.

Here are some baby pics. I started with 15, 12 made it to lockdown, 2 died in the shell, 1 is still alive but barely. The sick chick I helped hatch, well I might have hurt more than helped but its legs stick straight up and it is not walking and always rolls on its back. I have it wrapped in a towel and holding it and giving it watered down apple cider. As suggestions?
Check out the size of the feet!

I had a chick of a different breed that was just like your sick chick. After the 3rd day of it not eating or drinking I had to put mine down. If yours is eating and drinking or starts within 3 days or so it may have a chance. Depends if it is a physical problem or neurological problem. Maybe it will get better soon.

Reeree congratulations on the chicks! That is great for shipped eggs. I've never had any luck with the back rollers. It seems the front rollers stand more chance. I'd just keep giving the ACV water and give it another day maybe. I've had the odd back roller from shipped eggs not sure if that would be the cause. I can see how big and bouncy those babies are!

I find the EOs are like turkey poults in that they totally watch you and are aware of where you are, while all the other breeds of chickies are bumbling around looking down at their level. I hope you enjoy them.

Cheryl, I can't speak for skyline, but generally white wing and tail feathers, clavell/carnation combs (side sprigs) like a penedesencas, and leg colour are the things to watch. I think the North American birds have way more black than the Spanish, so we'll need to work on that too. As they are a race, the colours in the hatches are quite variable.

You wont be sorry Cheryl.

The reddest chicks tend to have the most black. I will be paying more attention and legbanding and I-D ing them all and studying and taking pics, as I can't seem to sex them before 2 weeks old right now.

James packages them well and people have been getting good hatches.

It seems any I have shipped within Canada (and it is a lot this year) they always seem to get a lot of chicks, even to BC and Nova Scotia! Better percentages with this breed than some of the others in the same parcel! You will see what we are raving about anyway! Congratulations on taking the plunge.
