My EO rooster is pretty aggressive towards other roos. He got into a pretty big fight that turned bloody with my pumpkin hulsey roo. Needless to say they are both confined to pens now.

Thanks FR.. I hope so! Been practicing hatching out a few breeds and almost feel as though I'm getting the hang of it. Almost!

Every hatch seems to improve in one way or another. There is nothing like experience!!

The pens are almost finished. Every time I say that we add another one but really, it's almost there. I'm feeling very hopeful for this upcoming year in general.

I found that too as well when I first started hatching, it got better each time I did it. Well your birds have a lovely abode already so you must be adding to it

Tabasco went to his new home yesterday evening....he now has his own lil flock of ladies to tend to. He went to an excellent home.


My White/grey Basque roo, the white and grey Basque girls went to live with my aunt. Tabasco went to his new home yesterday....so I no longer have any Basques. Good Bye sweeties...y'all were a lot of fun!

I am just firing up the hatching for this year. I have only been able to hatch from my own flock once--AC caught me and I had to rehome the roos.

The best hatch for me, other than my own, was shipped EO Basque eggs from Sky line.

Hoping to buy eggs from a few people to keep diversity up with such a small gene pool. Skyline's birds are lovely for sure and I've heard good things about his shipping methods. It sure can't hurt to pack them well...

I'm going to check out your shipped egg hatching link. I can use all the help I can get! Thank you!

I hope so! There have been so good ones and some horrible ones... at least I'm learning.

Thank you.. They love that coop and I'm rather partial to it myself mostly because it a lot of work... It's funny how some of the coops are more popular than others! They get choosy when there is a choice. Silly birds.

We lost 3 juveniles to a red tailed hawk about a month ago and of course they were in the only uncovered pen and were due to be moved within a day or two.. why do they choose the favorites?! I've gotten pretty stoic about having to cull when necessary, but I really cried over these pullets... poor things.

Now they'll all be in covered pens. Not sure about free ranging though I'm not against it by any means. Just concerned about offending the one neighbor we have.
