Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

Got a 19 week old rooster this morning from Ronott1. This guy is gonna be around for awhile to fertilize the upcoming hens. I think hes a very very handsome young guy! Hopefully he will get along with the rest of the flock until i get him some girls to keep him company! He's got a BRAMD NEW JUST BUILT 8x12 pallet coop all by himself right on the outside of my other coop where the rest of the flock is to adjust into which should be real comfortable. Havent decided on a name just yet. My father wants to name him, so when pops comes to visit he'll have a name! Thanks again Ron. Your the man!
He looks good! How many hens do you have?

Hi Everyone! How's everyone doing??

Back from vacation and wanted to share some pictures and my gender guesses so far. These guys are 3 weeks old.

Basques:
EO Black (GIRL):

EO Blue (BOY - he was mad that's why his beak is open! lol):

EO Brown (GIRL - sorry it's so blurry! Amy Beth: I need your professional skills!!)

EO Green (UNKNOWN - This one is a little disabled I think. It's left eye, pictured, is a lot smaller than it's right eye. Not sure why):

EO Orange (GIRL):

EO Pink (UNKNOWN):

EO Purple (GIRL):

EO Red (BOY):

Pita Pinta's:
PP Blue (UNKNOWN):

PP Green (GIRL):

PP Orange (BOY):

PP Pink (UNKNOWN):

PP Red (UNKNOWN):

PP White (UNKNOWN):

- Megan

P.S. I bought spiral plastic leg bands for them and hate them! They dig into their legs and they're hard to take off. I won't ever use again and wanted to let you guys know my experience just in case you are looking at leg bands!

Blue, green, PP pink and PP red look like boys. Of course its a guess but looks like it. I'm not fond of the spirals either. At that age I like to use the mini colored zip ties. Just gotta keep your eyes on them so they don't grow too big and cut their leg off. Is this your first set of chicks? I'm sorry if you've done answered this.
I hope you are enjoying them.

Can anyone tell me how well their hens lay in 96 degree and higher heat? Thanks!

My girls layed fine up to 104F in Central Va. They were panting a little, but not affected as bad as my BAs and BRs...

My best hen layed a 66gram ex large the other morning - she's 39 wks.

Nice egg! (nice scale, too) :)

Mine are at 19 weeks now. I can't wait until mine start laying.....

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got 12 MB eggs from a guy in Florida Greenfire line and 15 MB eggs from James along with 5 Lav Orps and 5 Speckled Sussex. I just got done candleing them and they are all growing but 2. Looks like I am going to be in the Marraduna Basque business. Thats pretty exciting.

Are these your first Basque? Adorable!

yes, my first chicks EVER, actually! i got them from Deann Disilva at Just Struttin' Farm (Novato, CA), and she got hers originally from you -- so we're all in the family.

in addition to these two, i have one cream legbar, and three lavender/blue orpingtons. impossibly cute.

welcome home, Megan -- so cool to see all your babies getting bigger!
