Blue tips sound like poor circulation. Is it cold where you're at? Try adding cayenne pepper to his food. It helps with circulation! I don't know anything about the feather thing that's going on though. Good luck!

Hey guys. Can anyone tell me what is going on with my Rooster Macho. On the base of his tail he has some kind of fluff. It looks like he's growing feathers. I'm not sure though. He also is getting blue tips in his comb in the morning notice it when I let him out of the coop? Is that a blood circulation issue? I'll try to get some clear pics I'm the morning. Thanks everybody.
I have seen the purple tips on my roosters. I just think its when they get extra 'excited' if you know what I mean. The fluff is just something you see in cocks. They have some soft whitish fluff at the base. I think it is not ideal, but I have seen it too. Your guy is really handsome. I wouldnt worry about him.

Agreed. His color is so much better than the vast majority of the cocks we have been seeing. I wouldn't worry about tail fluff. I wish I had him!

I agree with the above. He is a lovely roo. He may moult out of the fluffiness. I see blue tips golf rom time to time too. On different breeds. I don't worry too much if they are otherwise healthy :)

Ok so when I do breed with him it will come out in the chicks? Foes it happen to pullets too?

Is the blood circulation life threating? I have cayenne pepper ill add it I'm when I ferment their food tonite. It's not really cold. Just cool and crisp. He does really get excited in the morning when I let him out. He runs straight to the feeder and grubs out. But around 1:00-2:00 o'clock the blue.tips have gone away. Its pretty trippy.

Thanks for all of the love and responses. I got him Ronott1. He blessed me with this handsome guy.

When do they molt usually? I think he's about 20 weeks or so.

I have another question about another roo I have. This little guy has a very very interesting look about him. Very light colored. Is this normal for young roos before they come into their adult feathers? Hes about 8 weeks

He is a bit young to Molt this year so he will probably molt next Fall. He is 23 weeks old today. Of the five Cockerels that I hatched from Skylines eggs, three of them were very good. The other two had one ok one and one with white legs and very light. Great quality birds.

The legs will stay white and he may darken up some. He won't be as nice as Macho(closer to Spanish Standard). He is like one of mine and will probably be a nice big guy.

Congratulations!

Ron

The hard part with heritage breeds is the long amount of time it takes to know how good they are. Next Fall he could molt and the fluff might go away. He could turn ugly too. It often takes two years to figure it all out.

I would not worry about the fluff. He is very good in most of the areas that he needs to be and you need to work with what you have.

Sometimes you just gotta roll the dice....

Ron

Edited to add: Combs often change colors in chickens. Search for a video of a hen laying an egg--comb loses color as the egg comes out.

Don't worry about it. He is a very healthy boy.
