Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

I agree.. we are also searching for a great homestead bird and eating alot of chicken and eggs..

I think the BH is the answer, but I am going to need some more birds from the outside to get closer to the standard. Some great photos...

I really like the pullet in the last photo on the bottom right... She just looks good...

So, I need a lead on some improved eggs or chicks other than Skyline or GF.. Something a little more down the road to kick start me...

Post in your state thread, for BH breeders... I'm pretty sure there are several where you are -and one has a really good grip on genetics.

My pullets appeared very different color-wise when young, but after maturing are now very hard to tell apart. Some of them still show faint barring, and very light mille markings, but at a distance you would be hard-pressed to tell one from another.

I would also recommend a yellow-legged roo for your future generations.

All the stock available now is very similar genetically, so go for the best you can find in terms of size, shape, and temperament, avoid birds with bad combs or tempers, and you should be as far along as the rest of us.

Hey 1muttsfan,

I am just so up on these birds, so I want to get off on the right track. I was hoping for yellow shanks, but I ended up with slate shanks. So, I need to add a roo to the flock. I love the very dark mille pullet I have, but she is just to far from the standard to use really...

Thanks to all for the messages and posts... It is nice to find friends of a feather... :)

My brown girl as a pullet, even more grey in her bloomers than yours...

with her comb and wattles..

Foraging on partridgeberries...

Wow! That is a great looking trio! I don't care who you are, those are just fantastic looking birds... Nice Rooster...

Well maybe I my dark pullet will look a little different after she matures a little. She is a great bird, so I am hoping....

They are very nice!

I am getting some help from my Basque Pullet from Aspen this morning. She looked like she wanted to come in for a visit.

She is very chatty. Right now she is watching the cats and eating some left over rice. It is funny how curious she is.

Edited to add: Leela it the pullet in my Avatar. She is a couple of weeks older now.
