Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

They are very nice!

I am getting some help from my Basque Pullet from Aspen this morning. She looked like she wanted to come in for a visit.

She is very chatty. Right now she is watching the cats and eating some left over rice. It is funny how curious she is.

Edited to add: Leela it the pullet in my Avatar. She is a couple of weeks older now.

I think what I like about them is they just look like "farm chickens" and they have that Gamecock look at the same time.

.........if you only knew how far out from civilazation I live........They better BE farm Chickens. That is a GREAT looking trio!! Anyone would be proud of those.......even that ole James Meeks cat.

Wanted to share some updated pictures of my little flock:

We're lucky enough to be able to keep them free-ranging in their natural environment

You can just see the white EO I used to have...she's since moved on to other pastures...

This is our rooster, "Butter"...we had another, my kids named him "Mr. Peckerson"...as you might guess by the name, he lives in our freezer now

More hens...you can see an RIR in the background. I tried to move her out, but she would hop the fence every time... now she's an honorary EO.

This feather pattern is probably my favorite. Not sure how close they are to the Marraduna standard. I try to read the Spanish sites, but my Spanish is rusty and they have more text than pictures. Well, that's about it, just wanted to share since I haven't posted any pictures in a long time. Hope you enjoy!

Gorgeous birds! You are lucky to be able to keep them free ranging.
We just moved ours in their hoop coop onto the garden for the winter. It was a week before I had a chance to set up a temporary run (finished today). You should have seen how excited they were to get out there! The run will come down soon, hopefully just before the ground freezes.
In the winter (soon), I may let them out into a shoveled off area using snow banks as fencing. We'll see if they like that idea.

I have been reading this post all along. Decided to post a few pics of our Marraduna Basque.
This is one of our roosters and a hen of the color type we like.

this is another of the color type hens we prefer and will try to breed forward

This is our second rooter

This is our lighest hen, she is nearly white other than the barring just a hit of yellow

Awesome Birds guys.........that makes me happy to think about the future of EO's.

When they were established, just a few folks were working on them. Now we have quite a few...just wait until we get thousands of people, all basically pulling on the same end of the rope!! My grandkids went to the barn to 'Help' me feed tonight. Out of all my birds, my EO's are the ONLY ones that they...ages 2 and 3, can stick their arms in the pens and feed birds without getting "peckered" as my grandson says!!! Yea for not getting peckered!
