Eva’s Friends

That close up photo of Winston is fantastic!

Talking about Henry and needing a new name reminds me of a book I recently read a book where the main character was named Henrietta and her nickname was Hen. I liked that for a girl's name.

Hope your day is awesome!

Well, it’s been a busy four days (has it been four days?) since the last time I wrote. I spent a bit of time just sitting out there with everyone, and here’s what I witnessed:

Honor feeling all proud of himself (he’s a big rooster now, you know) and wanting to come out of the Muddy Run. Well, Vivienne wants to go in. Honor tells Viv to move, does a little leg kick and puts his hackles up. Viv isn’t having it. She puts her hackles up. Then suddenly and swiftly pecks him a good one on the head and walks calmly into the building while Honor runs off to complain to mum.

I cleaned out the duck pond, out jumped a frog. Knowing that the poultry yard is a dangerous place for a frog, I tried to capture him. Unfortunately Hilda saw him too. There was a wicked gleam in her little eye, and she streaked toward the unlucky frog. At the door she gulped him down with no remorse, and I sadly returned to my work. I was not very friendly toward Hilda for the rest of the day.

Stanislaw met his progeny for the first time since they were bitty chicks. Honor got on a stump and crowed. Stan looked around in amazement, then went back to tidbitting his girls.

Honor was rather full of himself, even after his confrontation with Viv, and he tried to stand up to various hens. Finally, I locked him up with the Chickies, hoping they’d teach him some manners, but they beat him up. They would have killed him. I rescued him. His attitude has been much better since.

Stan called Lil and Lu to bed one night. It was really sweet and very helpful, because those two are literally birdbrains!

Faith and someone else are laying!

Friday night I forgot to lock the door to the Sentinel coop. When I came out the next morning the door was half open but Stan and Lil ‘n’ Lu were still alive.

Incidentally, we have a resident coyote and fox. I have seen both twice within the last few days.

After more than a month of drought, we finally got some rain!!! I think it’s the effects of Tropical Storm Debby, but at any rate, we are glad to have it.

One of our two cars broke down on the way home from church; we had to leave it sitting in someone’s apple orchard because no tow trucks work on Sunday.

I finally took Eva to the vet. She’d been sitting there with her jaw chattering and this miserable look in her eyes. The vet says the jaw-chattering are petite mal seizures. That means Eva’s been having as many as ten seizures a day. The day after she went to the vet, she had four within a two hour period and one slightly more severe one. Now she’s on anti-seizure medication - dosage is one every eight hours for the rest of her life! Her first dose was at 11 am yesterday morning; she has not had any seizures since.

That's it for now. I haven't had time to take many pictures. I decided to redo my room and now it's a mess.

Poor little Eva with having the seizures. My last dog had those and it's such a helpless feeling to see a pet go through that. Hope her medication continues to work well at containing them.

I'm enjoying the stories of Honor...it's not easy growing up to become a rooster!

Sorry about the car, hope it doesn't take much to get it operating again.

Wednesday night again; it's been raining here (we had a very bad storm last night) and I'm home from DC.

The car is done for - the timing belt and the engine both broke.

We went to the zoo so that's the subject of half the photos. If you can manage to park on the street, the zoo is completely free, which is really nice!

Liberty is crowing. Ugh.

I have an interview for a teaching position tomorrow, and I failed my 911 dispatch exam but I get to retake it! :thumbsup

That's all for tonight, and hopefully I have something interesting to report on Sunday!

Looks like a nice zoo to visit, you saw a good variety of animals. Sorry about the car though.

Best of luck with the job interview, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! :fl

Well, there's nothing interesting going on, and I didn't get hardly any pictures. I've been hunting for cars for three days straight.

Honor was acting up again so now he gets to sleep with Dolores and Vivienne. Hopefully they straighten him out without killing him. I let him have his brother for company.

Charity pecked my sister so bad it started bleeding. No one knows why.

Minna decided to sleep with Stan in the Sentinel so Lil 'n' Lu are in the Muddy Run with Jen and Patience.

Oh. Winnie and Hilda are broody again, on seven duck eggs. I wanted broody ducks, yes. But I guess I should be careful what I wish for!

Pretty sky tonight

I just got back from northern Minnesota last night and am trying to catch up on all the posts I've missed.

I hope Eva's seizures are under control with the medication. My Keeshond, Molly, had idiopathic seizures where she would just spin in place, glassy-eyed, for up to 20 minutes. It feels awful when you can't do anything to help them.

Have you found a car yet? We had some problems getting my sister's SUV to start and were afraid to shut it off yesterday. So we didn't -- all the way from up near Canada until she got home in southern Iowa. Turns out it was only a loose battery cable; now we feel really dumb for not checking the connections!

Hope the critters are all doing well, with no excessive drama!

I'm done!!! :ya :wee:celebrate
I have turned in the last assignment. The communications class is graded - 100%. The Psychology class...hopefully the professor hurries up. And I get five days before school starts again at the tech college, since I didn't get a teaching job as far as I know. I will be going for my EMT certificate and if it goes well, will continue onto Paramedic.

I want to want to be excited, you know. My sister is sitting up waiting to celebrate (poor kid, she has to get a root canal at seventeen!) But all I want to do is cry. It's like when Helen was killed. It's hard to believe I'm finally done. It's been a long three years. I started on 16 August 2021 and the semester is technically over on 16 August 2024.

She's doing much better, but she still had three seizures. I need to tell the doc. Thanks for reminding me to give her her medication :)!

No, not yet. We've been driving around the countryside for the last few days just looking at car dealerships. At least we've narrowed it down to Jeeps, Fords, Volvos, and Volkswagens!
I'm glad your sister's SUV was alright and hope you had a good trip from Minnesota!

Ugh... Where do I start! Patience, the Buff Brahma, is at the bottom of the pecking order. Everyone is picking on her. She is hiding in the nesting box or on a perch all day. Hardly even comes down for food or water.
Dolores is getting picked on too, but she won't be friends with Patience. I have them together in a run so hopefully they'll learn to be friends?

Honor is just so full of himself. He was trying to fight Lily for almost ten minutes through the fence.
Liberty still tries to snuggle under Jenny at night. She lightly pecked him away, but he just cuddled up next to her. It is so cute!

Hilda and Winnie are happily brooding on at least fifteen eggs :fl.
Since Philip Howard is apparently a girl, I am trying to decide whether to name her Hildegarde or Bridget. Her mother is named Hilda and her father is Henry. Y'all got any other ideas?

That's it for now, I guess. I should have edited some of the pictures but I'm too lazy :). See you Sunday!
