So, I had a buff orp get pecked/picked on the first time we integrated. Well the good news is she is all healed and feathered back out!! I put her back in the coop...she still has some blu-kote left on her. I tried to integrate yesterday, but they went right for her blue neck.

So I bought some bag balm, lubed her up and I think it is working. The rhode island hens picked at her, but it was like they were cleaning her getting shavings off of her. The other buff (who went for her neck yesterday) tried again but was taken aback by the bag balm for now.

So Dear Hubby convinced me to leave her in the coop tonight. I just went out to shut in the coop, two rhodes islands were settled, the other buff was roosting for the night, the roosters in the metal dog crate inside the coop was settled in for the night. She was settled in the door way so I had to push her in. The other chickens didn't get up....

Hoping things will be ok in the morning.

Glad to hear that that things have calmed down. This is by first flock and I have a BO that also was pecked today and bleeding by a feather (22 days old) and I was going to get some blue-cote in the morn. She and a couple others are in another brooder. Someone mentioned to place oatmeal paste on her and then some honey for healing which is what I did. Are you thinking that the taste of the Bag Balm is keeping them from continuing their pecking at her?

i believe so. i searched the forum and found a list of things. Rooster booster pick no more, pine tar, bag balm, I had a girl from TSC recommend Corona Ointment (I think it's the same thing as bag balm though). Do the search, you'll get quite a bit of info.

Thanks, they are quiet for the night, still haver them in our basement. I will try in the morn and see what happens. Good luck with yours..

Good news. My buff orp made it through the night with the other girls without a problem. No signs of fighting or struggle this morning. She's ok... big sigh

So not only did my buff orp hen that was injured (now healed) make it through her first night in the coop with the other girls (and 2 roo's locked in metal dog crate in coop), she has made it through today so far without any of them pickin at her from what I seen.

Yay!!So happy, i was so worried last night about her gettng pecked at so bad again i didn't sleep.
