Hi everyone, I got a small mixed breed shipment of one day old chicks yesterday from Meyer Hatchery. All arrived in good shape. I ordered six standard and six bantams. One of the standards that I ordered is a buff Orpington. My question is that the buff is so much smaller than the other standard chicks that they walk all over her and I'm afraid she's going to get bullied away from the food and water. She's not assertive at all. The blue and lavender that I got are normal size. Meyer told me that they don't sell buff Orpinton bantams so its not a mix up. Im tempted to put her in with my bantam group because she's even smaller than a couple of them. I went out this morning and she's standing in the brooder by herself, eyes closed and shivering. Our outdoor temperature is currently 70 degrees. I picked her up and held her and shes still shivering. Any suggestions?

Just an update:
I went out a couple of hours ago to do another chick check and she was laying on her side breathing very shallow. Her eyes were closed and I thought she was dead. I picked her up and when I did she spammed and her neck jerked backwards and she has all the signs of wry neck. I got a bit of poultry cell in her and will keep treating. She's been eating and drinking fine for most of the day. Just kind of lethargic and that shivering earlier. Please keep her in your prayers. 🙏

Sorry for the repeat post. But I do want to add that we do have a heat plate that we leave on 24/7 and she did use it overnight but was out from under it this morning. Im afraid she's probably a runt and might not make it.

Orpingtons lay medium sized eggs. Your other standard chicks probably came from large or extra large eggs. I would put her in with the bantams until she gets some size.

I didn't even think about that. Good point. Thank you!
