I just had my second dog attack to my free range ladies. I'm tired of shooting half dead chickens with my shotgun. I want to shoot turkeys and dogs that attack my flock. anyway If a chickens skin is ripped from a bite .it looks like i can give stitches has anyone done this? The feathers were gone near wound and I applied medical tape to help close this 2 inch long injury. It was still about a quarter inch gap in her wound. I gave her antibiotic in her water. Kept her warm in the house in a large pet carrier for 2 days. Put her back in the chicken house. kept her fed and water and TLC. Today I found her on her back, looked like she was checking out so I used the shotgun on her. Then I decided I need to learn more about injured chickens. and how to care for them when they are injured so I don't have to shoot them. Is their a way to aneth$%%^$ put a chicken to sleep so I can give stitches?

Welcome to BYC, sorry it is for a sad occasion.

I have used butterfly bandaids on a wound before. It pulls the edges of the would together. I smear with neosporin after I bandage so the adhesive sticks. IT may pull a few feathers out when youare done and you might have to use several to get the wound closed good.

Sorry you are having trouble.

I'm late to the punch, but maybe next time (if there ever is one, which I hope there isn't) If it's not all the way into the muscle, try some Liquid Bandage and then the butterfly strips on top of it. I have used it (The New Skin) successfully to repair one of my cockatoo's legs when my other cockatoo ripped it down to the tendon. She has full use of that leg and foot still. She picked at anything I tried to tape on her.
