Ever had 0% hatch rate?

21 days ago I set 18 eggs from my own chickens for a sort of test run on our incubator - By day 14, it was very clear that only 2 out of the 18 had any development going on. I wasn't too happy, but it was my first hatching attempt.

So anyway, I'm now on day 21, and after a huge mishap of a temp spike to 107 degrees with 31% humidity that lasted over 4 hours on day 19, I'm worried of my only two eggs. They aren't moving, peeping, anything. Should I wait out, and how long should I wait? What are the chances of them hatching? I'm new to this, but certainly don't like these odds so far. I blame my crappy, touchy Little Giant, but. . . .

I seriously don't want to be, what possibly is, the first person with a 0% hatch rate.

Yes, you should absolutely blame the ultra touchy, ultra pooey LG! I used to get hatches like that with mine, then I chucked it and got a Hovabator Genesis (ok, actually I got 2)!! Now I'm getting near 100% hatches!

I've had 0% hatch rates due to power outage, I've now go bantams just in case we loose it again this spring. So dont feel bad.

I'll be hatching for the first time next month and a 0% success rate is my worst nightmare right now!

Get a good incubator and your nightmares won't come alive.

- Don't do what I did. Sooo disappointing.

Anyway, is there a chance of them hatching, should I wait any longer? I feel like I should just try and carefully pry one open.

Does your LG have a fan? I put a fan in mine and it helped regulate temps, didn't have to really mess with it at all. I had a 50% hatch with shipped eggs on my first attempt. Not that great, but I figured with shipping and being my first time that was pretty good. I am trying now with my own eggs to see if I get better hatch rates without all the bumping around from the post office.

Nope, no fan. Yeah - I know - That's one of the big problems. But it's a little late for changes, we've already got a Hovabator for the next hatch.

Currently the temp is around 100 degrees, humidity likes to hover from 60% to 80% (really high, I know, but it started out at 30% on day 19, so I had to put in a cup of water with a sponge. It didn't help much for days until today it shot up to 80, and so I just had to deal with it due to lockdown, but now it is around 70% or lower)

I'm too tempted to slip out the egg I'm least sure of, and just try and break a little pip in it or something... I know I know, lockdown. . .

Edit: What should I look for in candling? Last time I candled them on day 17 I didn't see anything but black, soo. . .

Yea I had a 0% hatch rate my first time hatching shipped eggs. Was not happy but I went and got eggs local and had a 70% hatch rate. Wait a couple more days but a temp spike that high is pretty bad.

So sorry you had to deal with this. Hope the next time is much better.

I actually had a zero percent hatch rate on some "show quality" Ameraucana eggs I purchased. Not a single one hatched... though they were in my Sportsman along with about 30 - 40 other eggs that did successfully hatch. In my case, I attributed it to the eggs. The same seller had sent me half dozen "mutt" eggs that did hatch... only problem was that some of the mutt chicks had severely crossed beaks. None of the other eggs that hatched had any type of deficiency or problem. I think the sellers breeding program needed tweaking.

Good luck with your eggs....it's SO disappointing when they don't hatch. Maybe a new 'bator is in your future? Shameless plug here, but I LOVE my Brinsea ECO 20, and I have a few Sportsman 'bators. The Brinsea is so awesome!
