Wood pellet bedding for 3 week old coturnix quail?

I brood both chickens and quails on broken down (water added) pellet bedding, they do great.

But if it’s the dust you’re worried about... the pellets even when solid will break down to be even dustier

I realize this is a super old post but how much water do you add? Do you dry it out after they expand?

I've just started using wood pellets with the deep litter method for my young quail. So far so good. The pellets are far less dusty. I'll be buying more.

Whilst shopping for wood pellets I saw kitten litter wood pellets. A bag was open and I put my hand in to feel the pellets and they were all crumbled and dusty so perhaps I should edit my previous comment . They are less dusty than sawdust initially.
