May want to come see you sometime in Elljay. You still go some of those nipples? I'll stop by on m way to LareePGQ's (whereever that is) and show you my new net! Gambel quail are very similar to valley. The males have brown on their head instead of gray like the valley. I got a pair of those for the same price last night. One problem is that the hens are very difficult to tell apart, and I am sure there are some crosses out there, which could include mine.
I got five valley chicks sometime in July. One died the first night and another committed suicide a month later. Two turned out to be bobwhites! The other was a female valley, and my breeder gave me two mature male valleys (the only valleys he had left) in their palce. (The two bobs were male, of course.) So, now I have three pairs of valleys and pretty excited about them. We will see how they do next spring. I did not find them any harder to brood than bobs, but they are less tame.
Does anyone happen to know if they will lay if I keep them in the house under lights? I know my neighbor's Cotornix are laying like crazy and mine that are outside are not at all.
