I just gave away all but one of my silkie crosses. They were the best broodie moms! But the price of feed here is causing us to downsize a bit.
Anyway, they make the best moms! Even the ones who are 1/2 silkie.
The one we kept, Peggy - recently lost a foot from the cold. She's doing great and I'm sure it will be no time before she's letting me know she wants to set on some eggs again. She's living in the house until it is dry enough out there for her to compete with the others in the flock. I think losing that foot was more tramatic on me than her.
