After much research and design thoughts, I have cur wood and framed the first wall. the design originally was to be about 4 x 4 with an attached run on 6 more feet allowing the girls to roam under the coop.

The final (current) design will be a 6' wide x 4' deep coop. The floor is 30" from the ground, plenty of room for them to roam under with. I decided to seperate the run from the coop in case I want to move it someday. The Run will be attached and be 8' wide and 4' deep.

Basic design considerations... We decided no pressure treated wood in the coop and run. So I am using cedar where ground contact is made. I am using Fir for the rest of the framing. Pretty much everything will be painted with Ben Moore porch paint. Classic colors of white and red. the floor in the coop will be split into 2 removable boards covered with Vinyl. We hope this makes cleaning easier.

I will post more as it progresses and I will be taking lots of pictures. So far I have one wall framed. No pictures will be posted until next week. I would to be able to show a little of what I was able to create over the weekend.

I will also include more details of the design later.

hey, thats cool! i used to live in everett! never thought of having chickens until i moved to the country. make sure you check the laws there regarding animals. I'd love to see pics, the house we have now came with the coop...

I am making decent progress... need to go get the porch paint for the frame and get it painted before I start to assemble the coop in place.

Here in the city of Everett WA. we can have up to 6 chickens. No roosters are allowed based on a noise ordinance. we have 5 chickens right now. as far as how many will my coop hold - 6.
the math is easy - each chicken requires 4 square feet per bird. my coop is 4 x 6.
I figured build it if we ever anted the maximum chickens allowed. I hope I have covered all the questions well. I really hope my designs are thought out enough to actually work well.

As for the name - "Everett Coop" is a temp name. I am sure we will decide on a good name once it has been completed. I guess I could have said "another coop in Everett has been started" for my thread title.

More later.
