So since I am parenting ducklings now and i just sit in a chair and watch them play around in the creek and grass i have some time!!

What are everyone’s favourite duck breeds and why? I am new to ducks and would like to know why people choose and like certain breeds.
We got muscovy’s and rouens. I definitely am a muscocy person although i was horrified when i first looked them up and saw what they looked like. I am totally taken with them now. I am wondering if the baby rouens we raise will be more in tuned to us. The big ones we got have no interest in us where as the muscovy’s like to hang out with us.
Also i take the ducklings to the pond so the other ducks can get used to tbem and the famales are being mean to them. They tried to attack them so now i always keep them away but will this change? Will they be able to become part of the flock? We are several weeks away from that but it worries me they will get hurt.
We have 3 muscovy ducklings just hatched and 2 more to go. Happy Canada Day!!!

I am partial to my muscovies. Though, I have never had any others. I got them in March when they were a week old.

Ducks seem to be territorial but settled down quicker than chickens. Are the other ducks at the pond yours? If so, maybe setting up a meet and greet would be best.
Your ducklings should be old enough to mingle without being too noticeable- which means they look more like ducks and not ducklings. Also, if muscovy are meeting other domestic ducks they aren't from the same genus, so will definitely stick out more as the new kid in town.

Beautiful Pekins. I have heard they are a friendly duck. I was worried about getting pekins as our ducks free range and have a duck platform they use at night. I got muscovy’s because i know they can fly a little and i was worried about predators. The rouens were an after thought as my boyfriend said he wanted some that look like mallards. I am not really a huge fan of them but the muscovy’s have completely won me over.
I take the ducklings regularily to the pond to meet the other ducks and the rouen female tries to attack them every time. She has 4 babies with her and 2 of these guys are hers that she left before they were hatched. She hates them. The female muscovy looks like she wants to be nice but she also tried to attack them awhile ago. I am now to afraid to let her to close. The males stay away from them and just sort of float around. I have another 4 weeks before they can go out there all the time so let’s hope they settle before then.
We now have 4 muscovy babies just hatched today. One egg hasn’t hatched. It looks good when yoj candle it. Could it just be a day behind?
