Everyone complains about my geese.

My husband taught our son to chase the geese (4 africans) and in the summer with no shirt on he chased the gander....gander stood his ground..jack ran away and shrek got a bill full and held on tight as he was running and screaming...lol I keep telling them that was not a good idea.....and guess what I was right. Now Jack is afraid of my geese...but they have a pen so all is good. Now hubby goes out there and puff's up big and takes no poop....he always says if they get him they are going in freezer camp. So I try to limit his exposure to them. But for me...I touch them and pick them up on a daily basis and have never had even as much as a hiss...... So who knows. But if my boys didn't like them and wanted me to get rid of them..........to dam bad...they are mine and they can suck it up

I have about 14 free ranging geese. They honk at everybody. And most folks for some odd reason are afraid of them.
My DD lives in the house next door on my property and her grown friends are terrified.

I tell them not to come over, problem solved.

My 4 pilgrims are great with me and my 14 yr old boy. They hiss and go after my wife (though she gives them a little kick and they always turn around and run off). They go after my 9 yr old boy, but he enjoys the "fight" and holds his ground. My 13 yr girl, however, is absolutely terrified. They "trapped" her in an outdoor shed a few weeks ago. I don't think they would do anything, but she was convinced her life would end violently at the hands of honking geese.

So, we no longer let them have unrestrained free range. A friend of mine suggesting snow fence as a moveable barrier, and this has worked great. It still allows them to free range, it is VERY cheap, and it keeps my daughter free to enjoy the outdoors. Plus, the geese had a nasty habit of pooping right on our doorstep and sidewalk, and my wife and I got tired of cleaning it up DAILY.

The snow fence pen is very large, so I only have to move it every other week or so. One down side, you have to learn to live with a very ugly orange fence in your yard.

I told my husband, back when we first met, "My pets were here when you came along and they'll be here when you go along if you try to get me to choose. Don't be stupid.". He wasn't and he now tolerates and even actually likes, horses, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and geese. This is a guy whose mom thought a desert tortoise was a pet and who thought tomatoes came from the grocery store wrapped in cellophane......
