Hi! I'm Melissa and VERY new to this forum. My husband and I used to live in St. Paul, MN where it felt like all our friends had chickens. Now we live in Ohio and finally decided to get our own chickens. I brought home 6 red sex-linked chickens two days ago and I'm already a little obsessed with them. I posted a thread already about losing two chicks and got some fantastic advice from members. Everyone has been very helpful. I'm happy to be here.

Welcome to the forum.

Hi Melissa and a warm welcome to BYC - great to have you onboard.

If you check out the Learning Centre, you'll find a whole host of resources on all things chicken.

Your state thread is worth joining as you will get to know other BYC members in your area (just type your state in the search box). In fact, the search box should become your best friend

Lastly but by no means least, the members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

All the best

Hi Melissa,

It sounds like you are enjoying the new little ones. I have 3 red sex links in my mixed flock and they are some great layers plus have lots of personality.

Sorry to hear you've had a couple of losses, do you know what happened? Hope the rest are doing well.

One of them definitely had pasty butt. I noticed it on the way home and the poor little chick was already half dead. The other one maybe was failure-to-thrive. She looked great but stopped eating and drinking. My replacements all look great. We're on about day 5 and they are bright eyed and interactive. Thanks for asking.
