Evicted! Finally!

Mine are 4-5 weeks and are going out this weekend. This am my DH brought one to me and put it in the bed. I can do dogs, but don't want chickens in the bed with me. He has taken to them like a duck to water.

Chickens in the bed?! Noooooooooo. I love my chickens, I do, but they take baths in dirt and poop everywhere. They do not belong in anyone's bed!

Mine made it through the night and it turned out the heat lamp we put out there for them was overkill -- they were all huddled away from it when we checked on them this morning. I let three of them free range a bit this morning and gave them all their first taste of scratch grains. They seem quite happy out there!

Does anyone know if I need to give grit with scratch grains?

If they don't have access to small stones, gravel, etc., then yes you need to offer the grit.
I agree with you about the heat lamp being overkill. At nine weeks they shoud be fine with anything above freezing, as long as your coop is draft free.

My girls are 5 weeks old and have been on a full enclosed porch for a week now. In a dog xpen. They have there light and covers at nite. I couldn't handle it any more. The dust and oders. but, I love them just as much.

I put mine out a couple of days ago...i am so excited! never again in the house! If it isnt warm enough in the garage with a heat lamp then it is the wrong season! I love them but not in my laundry room!
