I am a fellow hatchaholic. after a fail with a homemade incubator i bought, i picked up 3 little giant incubators and 2 turners. then it was 6, then my wife finally went off when i had 12 in the dining room. i moved them to my shed, and wittled them down to 3 sportsman cabinets eventually. i have built a few tinkering around playing with different elements, nichrome, thermostats, to the point of where im ready to take on a larger one. i think this one will be made from 1 inch MDF, and built to hold either 1000 or 1500 eggs. im going to do my hatcher separate.

just asking, what thermostats have you used in your projects? ive used wafers and a couple digital. im partial to the wafers myself.

on the aquarium, which was the first one i built, i had no thermostat, i used a light dimmer...lol.....and it worked great. From the dimmer i eventually went to water heater thermostat and it also did its job. finally i ordered 2 thermostat waffers and used them the rest of the season with my Tinkerbell projects and still have them as replacements at hand if the waffer on my 1202 gives out. i was planning on putting in a backup on my sportsman but im kind of scared of messing things up......so rather have it at hand to replace instead of burning things up if i try putting in the backup.

my wife used to tell me i was like a mcgiver, and if it wasnt for the chance of getting my sportsman more than likely i would of built a couple more incubators ......yay for the gods of ideas...
