Yikes....I've got 2 broodys each hatching out babies, 9 out so far and 5 eggs left. One of them starte pipping this morning and had made it's hole, when I went out a few hours later to check it had ants swarming in and out of the hole. I think the poor chick is dead. The other eggs are unaffected, but I changed the hay to fresh and put momma back on her nest. She seems content with her 5 babies and 4 eggs. I hear pipping from 3 out of the 4 but I left them all in with her.
Mommy #2 only has 4 babies as she got off her nest this morning so I put the unattended eggs under Momma #1.
Have you ever had this ant issue? Do you think the chick died first and that drew the ants?
It was so aweful......
