Ex-batts not eating

Hey everyone!
I got 3 ex-battery hens yesterday, and I have put them in our old chicken coop. To start with, I put the water inside the coop. However, they kept knocking it over and I was worried that they would get some sort of fungal infection or something, so I need to find a place to put that. I also put a feeder with layers pellets in, but they haven't touched it. I have had no experience with Ex-batts, so help would be great.

Try
1) crumbles
or
2) soak the crumbles in warm water and make it an oatmeal-like consistency

my ex batteries didnt know what pellets were, but when i showed them layers mash they got right into it...... so i did a mix of pellets and mash till they got used to it
