Ok, I've gone back to lucky number two. Two ducks are all i can handle right now, so how many eggs should i set? And what if more than two of the eggs hatch? I really need to know how many eggs to order from metzer, but not too many that more than 3 at the most would hatch. Also, what are the chances that i will get at least one drake? Thanks!!!

It depends on your incubator, how many eggs are fertile, and just a bit of luck. It's really hard to say how many you should hatch if you want no more than 2.....I actually just bought a couple of ducklings from Metzer, though, and their minimum order is 2 ducklings. I know it's not the same as hatching them yourself, but it's really the only way to be sure how many you're getting. If you really don't want to order already hatched ducklings, however, and you absolutely can't hatch more than 3, then I would probably set about 5 to 7 eggs, but you may end up with no ducklings at all and have to start all over again with new eggs.

As far as the drake goes, it's fifty fifty.

Thanks so much! If none of the eggs hatch I will definately try again because i am determined to hatch my own ducks!

Just a thought, if you live near someone on BYC, or feel comfortable shipping ducklings, you could ask some people here if they want ducklings so if you get more than you wanted you could give the extras to them....I don't know if that's something you would want to do, but I figured I'd mention it. :)

you have to b certified to ship ducklings
and it has to be done in special boxes

Mallards are also regulated. Check your state laws on owning them, many require permits. There are additional permits required to sell them or their eggs.
