Examples of show quality marans plz

I know there are posts specifically for Marans but I would like to see examples of Marans of any color from flocks who are shown regularly or flocks who breed for show

I would really appreciate a lesson on colors, patterns, leg color, feathering, leg feathering, tail set, crown and all these other terms I've heard but don't neccissarily understand. Thank you so much for all your time!

I am still learning but I'm pretty sure that atleast here in the US marans aren't showable, they may be in specialty shows but i've never read of anyone showing theirs? Last I heard all us breeders are paciently waiting for the day the APA will accept our beloved breed

Marans are known and bread for their dark colors. Not for show birds. In may cases I have seen the birds are not beautiful show birds. the prettier the egg the lighter the egg. darker the egg uglier the bird. Just my view on this. Not a fact but very close.

Here is one of my roosters. I don't show, but everyone can feel free to critique him. Sorry about the messy pen. That was last fall when my back was hurt and I was not supposed to bend, twist or lift more than five pounds. I like his level back and his tailset. I think he is too upright in front, wish his comb follwed the curve of his neck better. His temperament is outstanding, and he is a good breeder and completely ignores me in the run with the ladies, and is easily handled when need be. He has way too much coppering on his breast, and I would like to see a little deeper breast on him. He has a white flight feather on the tip of one of his wiings too. (boooo!)

Very beautiful roo. The biggest flaw I see is way too much red in his breast. His hackles could stand to be a little darker (copper colored) but overal his type is very good. You should breed him only to hens that are almost all black. If you breed him with hens with red in their breast, you will compound the excess red problem. Plus, you may get some unwanted, (or wanted wheatons). I've found that BC's with too much red in their breasts have some other genes in their background.

Oh that's awesome!!! Looks like I will be showing my marnas then!! I seriously did NOT know this!!!! Now I have something to breed for more than just my own goals!

That's half the babies' daddy. I have my hen flock split into two pens. This red roo is in with the darker ladies, and the other, darker roo is in with the ladies with some copper in their breasts, or a tinge of brown on their flights. I am trying my best to do the very best breedings possible to get middle of the road color. The red roo had a big tail and was a very early crower, six weeks! He matured more quickly and I was afraid he would be a holy terror, but he is just so nice!

BTW monarc, I dropped half your eggs yesterday trying to separate two roos (not these, EE and a cuckoo) that mixed it up after I accidently forgot to latch a gate. I should have put the eggs down first! I will not be able to mail until Wednesday, okay? Sorry.

Is black one of the recognized colors in the American standard? I have two nice young black pullets, feather legged that I would consider hauling to a show... What vaccines do you give a bird that was unvaccinated as a chick, and you want to show it? And after it is vaccinated, do you need to keep it away from your unvaccinated birds forever and ever?
