I was thinking about getting some of the Excelsior poultry pads to put down in the brooder. It looks like they would help the chicks get a good grip with those wobbly legs. Has anyone tried them? Like or dislike?

I've gotten chicks that were shipped on these already. I've never used them in the brooder, although it seems like it would be a good idea. The chicks can't eat something they aren't supposed to, and it seems better than just news paper.

Mine shipped on this stuff and I took it out of the box and put it under the feeder cause they kept flinging the bedding in the food and water. I wish I have that in the whole box cause it keeps the mess down. Not cheap here though.

I am not sure what Excelsior poultry pads are, but I have been using Dri-Bed underpads that they use for humans in the hospital. I had 4 packs of these leftover from when my husband was sick and confined to bed. They work wonderful. Now that the chicks are 7 weeks old they tend to crumple them up a bit. They actually try to dustbathe on them. So I am thinking that the Excelsior poultry pads would work also, and be a lot neater than shavings. I just fold the dirty ones up and toss them in the trash and replace with fresh ones each day.
