Excessive drinking/can this be a habit

janinepeters might be right. She might be Dehydration. I use "homemade" waters, so I don't know how many drips for mine. In the summer I do have some chickens blaze through roughly 1gallon of water a day each (95+degrees F). In winter time this slack off quite a bit. Granted not all of my chickens drink this much, but some do seem to need more than other (the same with feed and etc.). Mine stay in the shade through the hottest parts of the day during the hot days and still a lot. I have noticed that every time I change these particular chickens' water they have to take a drink. It my just be coincidence.

You know, they learn habits pretty quickly, like getting on a roost at dusk and laying eggs in a particular place. I wonder if it might be a learned habit at this point.

I've been wondering the same thing!! Whatever it is, the result is lots of watery poop. A lot of the time it's just just water. With the temps consistently below freezing, this freezes in the shavings and is easy to find when I clean the coop. Otherwise, there would be a lot of wet litter.
