Hi everyone! I'm in Goliad, TX and I'm excited to finally get back to having chickens.

After a farmer suddenly passed away from a heart attack, his wife was overwhelmed with the livestock. She gave all the chickens away and we ended up with two of them, a barred rock (Lucy) and a buff orpington. The barred rock was the friendliest of the entire flock, the orpington had health problems and didn't live long. Our two dogs, a Rottweiler mix (Sampson) and an Australian shepherd mix (Charli), adopted Lucy and they'd roam the yard together, all running to the back door when we came out. We had her a couple years before giving her to my mother-in-law to live with chickens again. Lucy passed last winter, 6 years after coming to us.

Now we're in a new place and after 4 years of itching, we got 4 chicks- 1 buff orpington (Sweet Pea), 2 "assorted layers" that look like buff orps (Marshmallow and Cookie), and a Rhode Island Red (Red). Our 8 yr old daughter, Lexi, named them. We're expecting eggs in the next 3-4 weeks!

A few days ago we added 2 ducklings to our family. I think one is a Swedish blue (Kiwi) and the other one (Cocoa) may be a cayuga? It's black with a touch of yellow on the chest. These are our first ducks. We're enjoying all of our fluff butts!

Looking forward to learning,
Emily
