Hi, Udo, and welcome to BYC where you'll find all kinds of info and help when you can get your chickens.

I see Trux has already provided you with some very crucial info which I hope you'll take very seriously as our part of the valley is still, blessedly, free of the virulent Newcastle Disease virus and we want to KEEP IT THAT WAY! So does the CA Dept. of Food and Agriculture. They are levying very steep fines for people who move eggs and birds into Los Angeles County or around inside it.

I doubt you'll find any chicks at any local stores. Hatcheries won't deliver through any of our airports. And areas like Norco where many people have gotten their lives birds from are under the same quarantine we are.

I'm in Woodland Hills not very far from you. In fact, I used to live in No Hollywood before coming out here. Right by Grant and Valley College. So, WHEN that quarantine is lifted I'd be happy to provide whatever hands on help I can. Meanwhile, do join us here. Reading about the ideas and problems and discoveries that people make here all the time will prepare you well to be a chicken owner.
