Before I decided to join BYC I checked out several other online forums and was blown away by the amount of information and participation BYC had. For the past four months information has been gathered to help with the preparation and design of my coop. BYC was invaluable with this process.
I grew up in a rural area in Idaho but have lived most of my adult life in a suburban setting in Oregon. My new coop plans have just been completed (excel works fairly well for this). A skid steer is rented for 02/17-18 to level and-prep the area. Also, it will be used to move sand, gravel, rock and bark chips. My neighbors on each side have volunteered to help with the project. The promise of fresh eggs may have been extended… Lumber and materials will be delivered the following week. I have an eclectic group of 15 chicks due to arrive 4/25-26. My flock will include Polish, Plymouth Rock, Wyandotte, Favaucana and Egger’s. I am so excited that the brooder is already set-up and tested. The coop will be an extension of my garden which I share with my neighbor to the north. Eventually a chicken moat will surround it and open grazing into the fenced grape area next door. I should mention my youngest daughter purchased the home a year ago, so her helping was a very soft sell. She and I run an accounting services group from our homes. I have two daughters, two grandchildren, a 14 yo black cat Vixen and a new puppy Kingston. Kingston is a Bernedoodle that is 8 ½ months old and double the size of his parents. A big, soft, cuddly bear of a gentle puppy. He will be with the chicks from the time they arrive, and he will be their best friend. If he could win over Vixen he will be great with the chicks.
So now you know me. I look forward to getting to know you!
