(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I grew up with chickens as pets - I got a flock of 12 at an auction (bidding against a local restaurant owner and there was no way I was going to let her win!). This is what prompted me to absolutely love chickens, which in turn made me realize the value of these little darling's lives and I went vegetarian at age 16.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I recently got a flock of 6 chickens and I'm in heaven!
(3) What breeds do you have?
I'm still figuring this out! I have a saphire gem, buff orpington, wellsummer, and a barred rock, and then I have what I THINK are a white leghorn and a rhode island red
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Getting to know their little personalities! It's an absolute joy.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I play guitar, sing, cook, garden, and anything that involves being outdoors
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm a dentist. Happily married to a lovely husband who is learning to love chickens as much as I do!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
The BYC website has answers to so many of my questions thus far, and when I found that I could post pictures and ask questions, I joined!
