I've had chickens for almost 2 years now, a small flock - 7 at the largest, now 6 (RIP Batty). One RIR rooster, 5 hens - RIR, a white hybrid (?), barred rock, ameraucana, wyandotte. They are all named after book characters from The Mysterious (Eggs) Benedict Society and The Pender(wicks/chicks), one book per set of chicks :)
They are just such a delight to be around. I love getting to know their personalities, and doing my chicken call and watching them all come running. I'm also a carpenter by trade, and I love the project that is a chicken coop - built it myself, and keep tweaking/improving! Obsessed with "the perfect coop" that I will build one day.
I'm also a big knitter, and I do aerial silks and straps, would love to chat about any of those things in addition to the chooks.
Recently became the co-owner of a farmhouse in Michigan City. Not going to be living there full-time, at least not yet, but it comes with an additional flock (!) of 12 hens, 1 bantam rooster, and 2 guineas. VERY exciting and the catalyst for my joining - I have a Lot of questions about handling the new flock that I'm hoping to discuss with all of you!

:D

Great intro -- I have to admit to being envious of your skills, both carpentry and knitting. I dabble in both, but skill isn't a word I could apply to either!

I like that your naming protocols, everyone with a book character name.

This is a great community of generous folks who will be happy to help you in any way possible as you move forward with the farmhouse flock.

Welcome to BYC -- let us know what you want/need!
